Internal Blogging?

I thought this blog was just for connecting to people within the library, but I clicked "next blog" and got some awful people from who-knows-where! (I learned not to do that again!)

Are people who comment on your blog followers? Or, can you be a follower without commenting? Also, can you reply directly to a comment? Maybe I need a "Blogs for Dummies" book! I'm afraid if I click on "Help" I won't be able to get back to this message. Of course, that's no great loss, but I hate to redo something I've already started!

Do blogs have folders or sections for different topics? Or, do they just ramble on about anything? If that is the case, why would you follow something without some kind of subject or topic attached?

This is just a bunch of questions! Not what I expected to do today.

  1. Hey Nina,

I'm going to try to answer some of your questions. If you would like I can show you some security things on the blogger website that may make you feel more comfortable.

To follow someone's blog simply means that you have connected your blog to another person’s blog, by adding links to your blog and often the person's blog you are following. Someone can follow your blog without ever commenting on your post. Someone may also comment on your blog without following it. The two are not dependent on one another. Now there are settings that allow you to control who can follow you and who can post comments. You can also control who sees your blog. If you would like help with security features I will be happy to help.

When you are writing a post you can save your work, without publishing it. That way you can go to a different screen without fear of losing your work.

Posts are organized by date and Tags. You may search for posts based on the subjects that have been tagged or by the date they were written. Within a blog you will see that the posts are arranged by date, but if you want to read something about... "Learning," for example... you can search "learning" and all the relative posts will come up. Now take into account that this will give you results for everything on the blogger site, not just internal DBRL blogs.

I am sorry if that was more overwhelming than helpful. Hit me up sometime and I can show you what I know (which isn't everything), but I am sure other people can fill in what I don't know.

  2. Amy addressed almost everything, but I would add that you can add a search widget that will allow readers to search only within your blog. If you click on "layout" there's a link to "add a gagdet." The search option is one of the things listed.

I think blogs have just taken the place of the zines everyone was publishing in the 80s and 90s.
