I'm tempted to title this post "Nearly lost in the labyrinth of the Internet". I started by looking around at the first couple Award Sites that Brandy estimated would take 45 minutes. (Brandy, what were you thinking! 45 minutes doesn't even scratch the surface!) Well, I started with del.icio.us and looked around at what others had bookmarked. It was interesting but not quite my taste. Then, I started putting topics in the Search box and I WAS HOOKED!
As you may know, I am a trivia buff, especially movie trivia, and I have to say I found some truly amazing websites. One of the best websites is the gigantic ipl2 (www.ipl.org) which is the result of the merger between Internet Public Library and Librarian's Internet Index. I think I had used the Internet Public Library before, but now this site is bigger and better than ever! There are 5 sections: Resources by Subject, Newspapers & Magazines, Special Collections, For Kids and For Teens. I started with Resources by Subject and was not heard from again for several days! (A librarian in a site like this is like giving drugs to an addict!!) I just went into everything and couldn't stop! Meanwhile, the deadline for Unit 4 came and went.
My favorite section of ipl2 (www.ipl.org) is, no surprise, "Entertainment and Leisure-Movies". There are 114 sites in this section. Some are old favorites like Internet Movie Database (imdb.com), American Film Institute (afi.com) and American Movie Classics (filmsite.org). Two of my new favorites are 80's Movies Rewind (www.fast-rewind.com) and The Numbers (www.the-numbers.com). 80's Movies Rewind has information on 575 movies-ranging from "9 to 5" to "Wall Street". This site includes: Reviews, Music/Sountrack, Trivia, Behind the Scenes, Filming Locations, Bloopers/Goofs, Links and Buying guide. The Buying guide links to Amazon. The Numbers, as the name suggests, lists all kinds of statistical information about the movies. It also has Movie News, Coming Soon, Trailers, Theater Counts and The Oscars. About every movie stat you ever wanted to know is listed: Daily Charts, Weekend Charts, Chart Archives, DVD Sales for the last 3 years and much more. Where else would you find total gross figures for films from "Birth of a Nation" (1915) to "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" (2009)? I highly recommend (www.ipl.org), search by subject and find something WONDERFUL!
